Aunt J and I flew out late Thursday night and met L and Mom in the city. By time we got there they were all ready being silly and anxiously awaiting our reaction to our hotel room which turned out to be the size of a shoebox!! We laughed many times over the weekend while rearranging ourselves in order to make space to move around the room. Even the hallways, elevators, and front desk areas were all tiny but, we weren't there that much and it's way more fun to be packed in like sardines, hehe!
The next morning we headed out on a walking tour of some extravagant store windows thanks to Aunt J's research. The window displays were so detailed it was unbelievable.
After a long day of shopping and trying to stay warm, we went to see Phantom of the Opera that evening. It was very good and I THINK I stayed awake for most of the show! The best part was definitely the chandelier!
The next day we went down to Canal Street for some street shopping. It was very adventurous to say the least! This was a great place to find scarves, hats, and purses. It was super crowded and we had to push our way through people to make it down the street.
After shopping we headed toward Little Italy for lunch. We made a wrong turn and ended up in China Town instead, but because of that we got to walk past several vendors selling fresh fruits and vegetables. It was amazing to see the variety they offered. How awesome would it be to be able to go to your closest street corner and pick up fresh produce!?! We were jealous :)
Once we found our way back to Little Italy, we found our restaurant recommended by Uncle Al. It was soooo delicious!! I even said that Greg would MAYBE consider coming back to NY one day IF we promised to eat in Little Italy everyday. Last time he made the trip we ate a wanna be Italian restaurant that was a bit disappointing! Once we finished our wonderful lunch, we headed not too far down the street to a great little cheesecake bakery where we had a hilarious time trying to take our picture through a mirror instead of simply asking someone to help us out...
Later that night, we visited FAO Schwartz and walked down Fifth Ave to see more Christmas decorations. We also stopped at Rockefeller to see the Christmas Tree. It was beautiful! We saw it several years ago around Thanksgiving but before it was lit and it's much more impressive when shining bright :)
The next day we had brunch at Tavern on the Green, which is closing in the near future. So we were glad we could fit that into the trip since it may not be around to see again. We have pictures from brunch somewhere and I'll try to post them later. After brunch, we took a horse and carriage ride through Central Park which was very convenient since it was raining. Soon after that we were heading to the airport.
It was a short, but memorable trip!!
